Hey everyone. One thing I wanted to get on the site right away was a few strips of the comic I wrote throughout high school and college entitled stickcat. I plan on making this a regular feature while I attempt to get stickcat.net back up and running with the complete collection.  For more info on the comic and few choice strips hit the jump…

Introduction, the itchy twitter

2008 April 24

Hello everyone. Yesterday, a friend introduced me to a website named twitter. For those unfamiliar with the service, it is essentially a social networking micro-blogging tool where others can track you throughout the day through small incremental updates (140 characters to be exact) you voluntarily write called “tweets”.

What?! Why would anyone be concerned with the minute details of my life and why would I want to even allow them to know? Obviously, my friend person was an aberration from the norm, some kind of super hero outlier with the rest of those crazy Internet hipsters.

Incorrect. According to this blog post on Twitter Facts, there are potentially over 12 million accounts created.

If you take the conservative estimate that 10 percent of those accounts are still active, that still leaves 1.2 million people updating others on their whereabouts, writing witty remarks, and being narcissistic in general.

This realization lead to the creation of my own twitter account (#14,502,734). If 1.2 million people find it feasible, therapeutic, and even helpful to write about what they ate for lunch then there must be some hard benefits I am missing out on.

I will also take this a step further and not only will I be micro-blogging about my life on Twitter, I plan on blogging about everything from this point forward and thrusting my personal and professional life to the forefront for those who are interested (currently zero).  What are the real pros and cons of someone suddenly thrusted into the world of blogging with no prior online footprint?

I guess we’re going to find out.
